The Tuckaleechee Garden Club (TGC) hosted Cathy Waitinas, National Garden Club Flower Show School Design Instructor, for the July meeting.

Cathy taught club members the basic principles of line design: (1) restraint in quantity of plant material, (2)linear pattern dominant, and (3) the line of the design can be vertical, horizontal, crescent, S-curve or zigzag. The design principles used in evaluating all art forms include balance, contrast, dominance, proportion, rhythm and scale.

Cathy supplied vases and flowers for each  TGC member to put into practice her teachings on line design. TGC members also supplied vertical elements including bamboo, iris, and yucca.

TGC members (left to right) Linda Lee, Mary Ruth Morgan, Wanda Taylor, Theresa Schehr, Jolene Martin, & Charlotte Miller display their line design floral arrangements after instruction.
