STANDARD FLOWER SHOW HOSTED BY SUBURBAN GARDEN CLUB

      SHOWCASES MEMBER TALENT

Suburban’s Garden Club’s Standard Flower Show “Alice in Wonderland – Through the Looking Glass” was visited by hundreds who enjoyed the members’ talents on display in table artistry, floral design, botanical arts, and photography. The horticulture room was astounding with over 500 specimens from area yards and gardens. New this year was a photography competition, won by Germantown resident Sarah Bettendorf with her stunning tulip photo. The successful, high scoring show, held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on April 27, capped off months of preparation and required the participation of each Club member.

On the day of the Show, several members of the committee gathered for a photo – L to R, Colleen Capstick, Susan Labovitz, Lisa Mischke, President Kay Black, Jan Rochelle, Deborah Matthews, Leslie Darr, Beth Breazeale, Chair Anne Piper-White, Co-Chair Elaine Hare, and Kirsten Ancona.

Visitors were equally delighted with the creativity of the design entries, as in the four seen here, and the varied beauty of the horticulture room, typified by these azaleas.

In other SGC news, new Board members were installed at the May meeting.  Each received a lovely rose and pledged to faithfully perform the duties of her office. The new officers pictured are Cindy Childress, Treasurer; Kitty Stimson, President; Rhea Clift; Vice-President; and Recording Secretary, Lisa Mischke. Corresponding Secretary Amy Abernathy could not be present.
